www.sowetofineart.co.za has been working with the black artists from Soweto since 1988. We stock the largest online portfolio of works created by this group of very talented people. The President and Founder, Dr. Martin G Britz has defined the group in the first comprehensive book on the subject, South African Fine Art - The Soweto School.

Martin continues his interactions with the group of Soweto artists and begins to form close friendships with some of them in particular. Martin dedicates his professional career exclusively to the group of black Soweto artists, their artworks and the preservation of their history. Martin continues to gather and document information from the Soweto group of artists relevant to their history and the creation of their artworks. He starts exhibiting and selling their works on fine art auction sales conducted throughout South Africa by his father, George. Martin visits the USA and establishes a business partnership in Baltimore, MD. Martin sponsors a USA Exhibition in C apitol Hill, Washington, DC representing the works of art created by two of the most successful contemporary fine artists active in South Africa at that time, outside of the select group of artists promoted and exhibited by fine art galleries dominating the contemporary fine art market in South Africa at the time. Martin meets with the Director of the Museum of African Art, The Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC, USA and presents to them two works of art by the late Winston Saoli (1950-1995) for assessment and consideration for inclusion into the Museum's permanent collection. During this period Martin also takes time out to study Theology, a subject that has peaked his interest for. 2006 Martin completes his studies and receives his Diploma in Theology and National Certificate in Ministry. Martin meets with the President of Morehouse College, Dr. Robert Franklin and Prof. Terry Mills, Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities, when a course of action in the final editing of his manuscript is decided upon and implemented. Martin meets with Dr. John Haggai the visionary founder of the Haggai Institute at the Headquarters in Atlanta and shares his vision and mission with him. 2009 Martin takes time out from the active business world to complete the manuscript and to conduct additional. 2011 Martin interviews additional individuals holding significant knowledge of the history and events which took. In the completion of the final phase of his manuscript, Martin recognises a shift in the contemporary black fine art market in South Africa with the market now dominated by black fine artists emanating from various Sub-Saharan African countries, and, in particular, the group from Zimbabwe. Martin expands on an already extensive database of information accumulated in the preceding months in his meetings and interviews with the Sub-Saharan group of artists by recording and documenting valuable socio-economic, historical and political information during further interviews with these artists. It attracts artists, galleries and art related industries from across the globe. During the visit Martin compares the artworks created by the cream of the international contemporary art market and the almost completely unrepresented contemporary fine art being created in Africa.
