Our design capabilities are primarily linked to the equipment that we are working on. An experienced design capability exists in the design of white metal bearings which we then manufacture in our workshop. This design services extends to the various components required by our clients where design improvements are required. A full capability is available to model the components, analyse stresses and prepare manufacturing drawings for the final product. Our more recent entry into the hydro field allowed us to expand the maintenance into this growing field. The bearings of large rotating equipment are quite often a white metal design bearing due to the robust and long life of the bearing. The refurbishment of existing or new bearings is a specialist field where we provide our clients with a specialised service. The use of white metal bearings span the rotating turbo machinery field, but we also do regular work on large electric motors and alternators. Our design capability puts us in an ideal position to redesign and refurbish components that are no longer available or where a more cost effective solution is required. The scope of components that can be covered is wide. The biggest manufacturing demand is for the replacement of bearings, seals, shafts and other wear parts. The benefits of using laser alignment is significant and could help to reduce vibration and wear on couplings and bearings. Our calibrated laser alignment equipment is suited to be used on small or large machines. Alignment requirements may also vary for different equipment as it is quite often required to compensate during alignment for the actual shaft running position due to movement in bearings or expansion caused by temperature increase. Installation projects of new or refurbished equipment has formed an integral part of our company activities over the years. Our teams are used to working in remote areas with limited resources to install equipment for our clients. We will normally start with the installation work as soon as the civil work has been completed. Placing us in a position to provide any scope up to a turnkey solution of the installation. Installation of new or refurbishment work covers the full field of turbo machinery. Managing our installation projects as well as the manufacturing of components and machine assemblies requires a strong project management capability. The same applies to the manufacturing aspect which often includes the pre-assembly of components in our workshop of complete turbines. This is done with a small dedicated team that we employ through Kakamas Hydro Maintenance Services (KHMS) The team operates and maintain the station with the assistance of the OEM (Hydro Power Plant) and WD Power maintenance teams.
